"Shared Waters Alliance (SWA) study area is the Boundary Bay Basin, with a particular focus on the Semiahmoo Bay and Drayton Harbour sub-basins.  Boundary Bay's waters support a rich and diverse ecosystem, historically centered around a healthy marine environment.  As the region's population has grown, these waters have experienced varying degrees of environmental degradation due to urbanization, land use practices, and storm water runoff.

The goal of SWA is to promote environmentally sustainable land use practices, encourage environmental stewardship and work towards improving overall water quality of the Boundary Bay Basin."
